Easter Wine Wish List

This weekend is both Easter and my brother’s birthday, which means two things:

  • My family will have an annual birthday wine tasting in my brother’s honour
  • We will cook some delicious meals (jambalaya! lamb!) which, of course, necessitate the pairing of some delicious wine

Here are some wines I’m excited to try this weekend. Conveniently they’ve all found their way into the Vintages catalogue at the LCBO, which is where they caught my eye.

Lorca Seleccion Monastrell

$15.95

Lorca Seleccion Monastrell

According to the Vintages magazine this wine has “violets, blueberry, mineral, spice and meat notes” – YUM! We’ll have to see just how this wine stacks up against that delicious-sounding description.

Alkoomi White Label Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc 2014

$16.95

Alkoomi Semillon:Sauvignon Blanc

Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc is a common blend in Bordeaux, and Semillon is becoming a bit of a regional specialty in Australia. For those two reasons alone I’m interested in this wine.

La Griffe Bernard Chereau Muscadet Sevre et Maine 2014

$16.95

La Griffe Bernard Muscadet Sevre et Maine

Melon de Bourgogne is not a very well known variety, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a great one. Muscadet Sevre et Maine wines tend to have wonderfully bright acidity and citrus notes, and the lcbo says this one is complemented by some nice minerality as well. My kind of wine!

Cape Vine Chardonnay 2016

$14.95

Cape Vine Chardonnay

It’s from the Margaret River, how can I resist something with my name?? I tend to prefer more fuller-bodied Chardonnays but I’m willing to give this one a try in the name of spring freshness. Plus the price is very right.

Featherstone Black Sheep Riesling 2015

$16.95

Featherstone Black Sheep Riesling

Ontario makes lovely Rieslings, and the florality and tart green fruit make Rieslings a great spring wine. I’ll definitely be picking a bottle of this up.

Echeverria Gran Reserva Pinot Noir

$15.95

Echeverria Gran Reserva Pinot Noir

The Vintages magazine says this wine is medium bodied with cherry, blueberry, and hints of tar. Sounds like a great way to ease away from big, cozy winter reds and into light and fresh summer wines and would go excellently with the lamb my family is having this weekend.

What will you be drinking this weekend?
